My 15,000th Post!

Well, I never expected this. I joined a little over two years ago, and I'm already at this landmark. Now, I know that I shouldn't be surprised, as people like Aaron have been here for less time than me, and yet, they have far more posts than me. But, I'm proud to say that I've reached another landmark. The reason I say I didn't expect this is simple; like many others, I was lurking around here, long before I actually joined. Never did I think that even when I did join, I would eventually garner such an amount of comments. Thank you all for the happy memories. And, thank you to those who were around when this forum was most active. You know who you are. :D

I do. I have noticed all the "PS! Comment number 13000... 13100...14250..." remarks. I'm not saying you shouldn't if you find it meaningful. I'm merely expressing that I don't think it is. When you start a thread supposedly dedicated to celebrate this achievement on your part, which is a good achievement for sure, you should expect some comments regarding the meaningfulness and/or purpose of the thread. I'm not saying you have no right to start this thread, but I'd like to point out that you may not get the responses you want all the time...

I don't see it how you think I do. I'm not in it for the response. I'm doing it for myself. It's not meaningful, and it's not entirely in celebration. I've reached a certain number, and I'm proud of it, because every new number is more than I ever thought I would get to. I don't need a response, and I most certainly don't need snide remarks. When Richard and Aaron reach their respective landmark numbers, I would like to congratulate them. I'm sure they're not doing it for the response, and I don't care for it either.

Put it this way; I won't care if you don't respond. I also don't care if you do respond. If you do, then I'm happy. That doesn't mean it will make my day. You not responding won't break my day, either.

You're saying you don't find it meaningful and that you are doing it for yourself. The question is, why are you doing it for yourself? It couldn't be because you actually do find it meaningful? Not necessarily meaningful because of the numbers themselves, but because of what they represent perhaps (eg good memories?) or some other reasons. I am trying to understand you here and I find it odd that you would be doing it if you didn't find it meaningful. There is nothing shameful about that per se, nor to be proud of it. It is a great achievement and it is understandable to some degree that you're partially doing it in celebration (my interpretation from your use of entirely). And please don't think that I wasn't being genuine with my congratulations despite my slightly snide comment regarding the purpose of the thread and your fun, yet exaggerated use of word (ie. landmark).

That being said, if you are doing it only for yourself and don't need a response, why start a thread about it? That invites people to respond doesn't it? When you start a thread you expect responses. I'd certainly be disappointed if no one responded to a thread I'd just started. Be honest: Wouldn't you feel disappointed if no one responded? Wasn't that partially the reason you created it?

Lastly I hope you understand that I'm not trying to be mean to you. It should be read as a kind warning that if you had posted this on another public forum, you would have gotten 10 times worse comments than mine.

But, that's the point; I'm using the word 'landmark' as an exaggeration. So, if I'm being honest with you, then I'll say that it depends. It depends on what my thread is entailing. I would care if I felt that I needed a response, but i've created many threads in the past, that have never been commented on. I didn't care, because I don't need a response. Don't get me wrong; I appreciate any reply. I just don't care as much as you think I do. Do I expect a response? Sure, but again, it depends entirely on what the thread is entailing.

Finally; I do realise that I could have been slaughtered, had I been on another forum. That's not of my concern, as I'm not on another forum. Besides, I tend to put those people in their place.

So do I get you right that you created the thread because you wanted people to read it, but not necessarily respond to it? That's certainly true a lot of times when people publish opinions; they don't always need comments, they just want people to notice their opinions.
