Warlocks????

hey, guys. i've notied the term warlocks or warlock several times in the HP series. calling them warlocks implys that these people are exactly witches or wizards. can anyone shed some light on what warlocks are?

  • Warlocks are, among historic Christian traditions, said to be the male equivalent of witches (usually in the pejorative sense of Europe's Middle Ages), and were said to ride pitchforks instead of broomsticks which normally witches would ride. In traditional Scottish witchcraft, "warlock" was and is simply the term used for a wizard, or male witch. A synonym is sorcerer.

    I always thought Warlock meant 'evil wizard/sorcerer'.

    according to wikipedia warlock is the male eqivealent to a witch so basically a male witch is called a warlock

  • According to 'the Tales of Beedle the Bard', Warlock is a term used to describe a great wizard with authority (Chief Warlock in the Ministry, etc.)
