I think Greg is reading a book called I Am Number Four. As for myself, the only thing I read today is a chapter on urinary system drugs for my pharmacology class.
Alcohol and calculus don't mix. Never drink and derive.
If you havent already, you can watch the trailer for the first movie of it they made of it. The Second book (Dead of the night) was confirmed to be made into a movie last week. Im gonna audition for it :)
Oh yes it is! If you love the Hunger Games books, you will love that! It's not THAT good like Harry Potter and Hunger Games but for a plane ride it's very nice!
hahaha well i am reading S. pyogenes for microbiology class bleh! XD It´s cool, but´i havent had any time to read....i hope to read again in vacations :)
I'm reading Gone, the first book from the series written by Michael Grant.
In the blink of an eye. Everyone disappears. GONE. Except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not one single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened.Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day. It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else...
I'm almost in the middle of the book. So far, it has been an interesting reading, I can't deny it, after all, for a lazy reader as me, 200 pages in less than 24 hours is quite a few.
But... The book has a lot of issues. First, there are too many characters. It's really hard for you to focus on the protagonist and, sometimes, the supporting characters are far more interesting. In some chapters, we follow the points of view from others characters and there are a lot of multiplot. For me, at least, it's not a good thing, because it totally takes the action away.
It's funny that the characters on the cover page look, at least, 16. But they are 14 in the book. And, honestly? They don't behave as 14. It's odd cuz the dialogues are kinda childish but their relationships make it seems they're a lot older than that. There's no balance at all. Sometimes it looks really childish, sometimes it looks juvenile. Weird.
Another thing... I thought the book would concentrate more in the "gone" thing, but it feels like a literary version of X-Men. I was expecting something different. Something more mysterious.
Well.. I didn't finish the book yet, so, let's see what happened. Although, it is a really fast-paced story, with a lot of violence, that kept my attention! I can say I'm enjoying despite all issues.
Well... I wrote that I was reading it really fast. But I've found out that it wasn't because the reading was interesting. It was because I was expecting the story to get better. And it didn't. I can't deny it that some parts are quite funny and there are great action chapters. But the book is a total mess. After all, is it a fantasy, a sci-fi or a supernatural narrative? I don't know. Another thing... The book is so childish and so mature at the same time that you can't trust and believe the facts of the story. As I said, a mess!
I'm kinda frustrated because I was expecting much more, specially after reading great reviews and the awesome synopsis. A huge disappointment. I'm not sure if I will continue reading the series.
Hey, dobby! I decided to leave the best for last, so I started to read Uglies. :D But I promise that I'm going to read Maze Runner after it. I bought the book yesterday, by the way!
I've read almost 100 pages and I'm really enjoying it so far!
I usually don't rank things. I don't think it's always fair to say that something is better than another thing. I have my favorite books, for sure. HP, of course, is one of them. But I have another favorites too.
By the way, I had the same excitement reading The Hunger Games as I had with HP. :D
I can say that I've enjoyed enough to make me buy the second one, Pretties. The world that Scott Westerfeld created is amazing. The narrative is fast-paced, but the action sequences are not that exciting. The romance is kinda unconvincing and weak, not interesting at all. Actually, it's the weakest part of the book. But the plotline kept my attention. It's not the best YA book around, maybe not remarkable at all, but if you have nothing more interesting to read, I reccomend.
