How did you like the film @Slantee? You haven't posted your reaction yet bud. :|
It was good, though not nearly as good as I expected it to be. I mean it had much lesser impact on me than the book did, which I read about six months ago. It was, in general, a good adaptation. But not a very emotionally strong movie. The only scene I could actually feel the tension in was the reaping, which was my favorite scene in the film. I couldn't feel any tension during the games, any at all. It was all too quick and easy. The characters felt very two dimensional. I couldn't feel a thing during the cave scenes. I did like some of the added scenes though. I also did not like the production design very much. I usually go out to watch movies and what I see is on a much bigger scale than I imagined it to be. That did not happen here. In fact, the Capitol, the Cornucopia, the forest itself, everything was on a smaller scale than I thought it would be. I don't know. My opinion MIGHT change on a second viewing, as it did for a lot of you guys.

Ross has some idea of what the next Games will look like. “The arena in the second book is tropical and the arena in [the first] book is forests, so that in and of itself will make for a different wardrobe on the part of the crew,” he explained.
“In terms of the cinematic differences in the way I might shoot the movie, I shot this in a very specific way that’s very different than most franchises are shot, obviously, and that had a lot to do with the urgency of what’s going on and Katniss’ point of view,” he continued. “I have some ideas about how to do ‘Catching Fire’ slightly differently, but I don’t want to share them yet. Not because I’m being evasive, but just because they’re not fully baked. But yes, I think it will look and feel slightly different from the first.”
There are things in Catching Fire they will struggle to fit into the PG-13 rating. I think they'll probably get away with being a bit more upfront with the violence, because of the age of the tributes next time around. But there are certainly things in the arena they'll have to wrestle into PG-13 territory. :-?
I actually think they'll have a much easier time in catching fire... hang on. How do you create spoiler tags? I don't want to spoil anyone by saying too much haha

hmmm.... maybe. But it might bring you out of the arena too much near the end. A lot of the surprise of the ending might get lost if they show D12 getting destroyed.
But I do think they'll have an easier time w/ the violence than they did with Hunger Games. The fact that they are all adults will have a huge impact. They can show so much more. Also, a lot of the deaths are intense, but less bloody than the first book. (just less people die in general) And many of the things in the arena are psychological (like the jabberjays).
The one scene I can see them having issues showing will be when Johanna starts stabbing Katniss's arm... That scene seemed horrible when reading haha
Isn't there a rainstorm of blood in the arena? I'm assuming that will be cut straight off, or they'll probably change it to just plain rain.
As for the Morphlings, I wonder if they'll bother addressing their addiction. I know ratings boards can be a bit touchy on the subject of drugs, so I'm not sure they will bother.

Spoiler:
You never actually see the blood raining... you just see Johanna, Beetee, and Wiress stumbling out of the jungle covered in blood.
and I bet they'll hint at the morphlings, but not go into detail. I can see that happening.

The blood rain happens 'off screen,' so they don't have to show that.
I can see them adding a stream of blood flowing out of that sector into the water. Just to hint at it.
Oh! I forgot Gale's whipping scene. They're gonna have problems keeping that pg-13 I'd imagine.
Gale's an adult in Catching Fire, so they won't have to shy away from the blood as much.
Very true... I really hope they are able to keep it as brutal as it was in the book. That was the first moment in Catching Fire where I was like "Oh dang... shit is about to go down."
How long do you think the actual Games will be in Catching Fire? I hope we get to them sooner, or at least don't focus too much on the romance before they get to the Quarter Quell.

It will be interesting to see how they adapt it.
I agree.
I think that Catching Fire could use some alterations and changes. The book is very good, but I think that "Part 1" and "Part 2" are very slow at times. They need to keep things moving.
I think Catching Fire is way easier to be made PG-13 because most of the violence doesn't directly feature blood. And it's still going to be a hell of a ride.
Well if memory serves there are a few gory deaths, but if they can get away with that with children, it should be no problem with with adults.
I hope after the success of Hunger Games they increase the budget dramatically for next time. Catching Fire needs scope, especially if we are to see the other Districts realised to their full.
Guys. I have something book related in the movie that I forgot to point it out. I don't remember if it happens in the book. It's just an observation, but I've found really odd that Katniss gave the Mockingjay pin to Prim. I mean, instead of giving her protection, it seems that it brought bad luck LMAO I know the theory doesn't work at all, after all Katniss uses the pin during the games, but a friend of mine who hasn't read the book, during the scene where Cinna put the jacket with the Pin on Katniss, said: "OH NO. THE CURSED PIN". LMAO
@Henrick That was really weird, indeed! Mainly because Katniss randomly finds it in a store at the Hob. They could've just said her dad gave it to her.
That was indeed some funny unintentional black comedy. They should either have cut the pin or have Haymitch give it to her before the games and say that he used it when he won xx years ago, which immediately would have established it as a symbol of luck.
Well, Katniss volunteered for Prim, so it did protect her. You can take that further and say it's hinting that Katniss is the mockingjay. Mockingjay Pin=Katniss.
Having Katniss' dad to give the pin to her would be way easier! That "Wanna see what I got you today?" dialogue would just need to have a "Dad gave it to me when I was about your age and it always helps me on my hunting" line or something similar. As simple as that.
It would make sense for Haymitch to give it to her, though, considering he was planning a rebellion and might want people to associate her with a symbol, in this case a mockingjay. However I see your point about establishing her as the mockingjay from the very beginning, but perhaps she could have gotten the pin from her dad instead of a random woman?

And finally, we should just change the title of this thread to "Catching Fire News" after HG comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray
