Guys. I'm sure it is a good movie. The problem was the hype and people expectations. But well... Is it fair to blame on the movie if YOU weren't able to control your own expectations? That's why I always walk into a movie theater impassively.

I've gotten the impression that it's a perfectly decent sci-fi movie, but a lot of people expected better. And there seems to be a pattern in their issues; it's mainly the script and the story they are disappointed in.

I've heard some people say that they're disappointed in the story, others that the story hasn't left their minds and that there's a lot to talk about.

If there are planned sequels it would make sense that the story isn't fully resolved.

Of course it's similar to Alien. It's part of a few movies that are going to build toward it.

Again I'm utterly confused by complaints. Maybe I'll understand the complaints when I actually see it.

All I'm understanding is that the film is a bit of a letdown given the hype and Ridley's previous sci-fi track record. Luckily, "a bit of a letdown" for Ridley Scott is still a very good film.

Good thing I liked Alien. Not for the story -- let's face it, it's pretty thin -- but for the suspense, visuals and the monsters of course. If Prometheus delivers on suspense, I'll probably like it, but I've heard otherwise unfortunately.

Something great can be a big letdown if your hype is just escalated beyond reasonable reach.

As far as Ridley's track record, he made some cult classics. Alien isn't a deep or intelligent movie. It's a well made slasher film at best but it had iconic elements. Blade Runner, honestly, kind of bores me to tears.

Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" is a magnificent science-fiction film, all the more intriguing because it raises questions about the origin of human life and doesn't have the answers. It's in the classic tradition of golden age sci-fi, echoing Scott's "Alien" (1979), but creating a world of its own. I'm a pushover for material like this; it's a seamless blend of story, special effects and pitch-perfect casting, filmed in sane, effective 3-D that doesn't distract.

Yep.. and if you look on RottenTomaotes, the film have a 73% tomato score but with an average score of 7/10... that's enormous for a film with "only" 73%! And the Top Critics are even bigger, with a score of 75% but an average of 7,7/10.. that's big too!!
