Yeah, too many people seem to equate darkness with intelligence. I understand the mindset because it's easy to make cynicism look smart; it's a lot harder to be optimistic, especially in pop culture, and not come off saccharine. But my favourite scenes are always when people rally behind a hero, or come together to be heroic themselves. To be fair, though, I loved TDK's ending, when Bats took the fall for Harvey. It really sums Bats up as a character and a symbol: an immovable object, unbreakably moral even in the face of his own ruin.

Yeah on paper that may sound good, but it's a terrible pose with no weight or gravitas behind it. It's a boring image.

You reckon? I dunno, crux - I'm not a Spidey scholar but to me the 3D cover looks like a fairly iconic Spidey pose, which I guess is how Sony's trying to sell the reboot: you know, "Don't get upset about the tiny interim between remakes, fans, this is still Spidey." I think it works (more than the movie did, for me, anyhow); his pose captures the feeling of movement and the angle of the background suggests giddiness, vertigo, the feeling of webbing between buildings. Though I will say this: open your hand or tighten your fist, Spidey. Because your left just looks like it's giving the Invisible Man a handjob.

Spielberg and Day-Lewis. Could this be anything but epic? Also I love how closely this is following behind Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, an altogether different take on the great man but still an awesome film (although I do wonder how the average American felt about recasting a national psyche-tearing bloodbath like Gettysburg as a vampire kill-fest, however long ago it was...)

Anyway, here's hoping Spielberg doesn't go all episodic on this one like he did with War Horse. That movie had zero consistency of tone.
