Well there is a dark scene with the Hogwarts Grounds and castle if I remember correctly...just a tracking shot. It cuts to Harry,Hermione and Ginny discussing Sectumsempra. Hermione is not as bitchy as in the book but she and Ginny try to persuade Harry to hide the book. Harry doesn't know where so Ginny tells him that she knows a place. Then it cuts to the Seventh Floor Corridor where they find the Room of Requirement, Ginny tells Harry to close his eyes so that she can hide it without letting Harry know where it's hidden and then she kisses him softly and leaves. Then we've got the Felix Felicis and Aragog's funeral scenes.

Oh something that I didn't mention...

    The action scenes are few:
1.Death Eaters attack in London and Diagon Alley
    2.Quidditch tryout practise and match
    3. The Burrow burning/attack/chase
    4.Sectumsempra duel with Draco
    5.The Journey to the Cave
    6. The Invasion of Death Eaters/Astronomy Tower death sequence
7.Bellatrix destroying the Great Hall and burning Hagrid's Hut/Snape confronting Harry

But while we see all these on the big screen they are truly spectacular.
  1.
Did they keep the part in where Snape says "sssh" to Harry by putting his finger to his lips before he kills Dumbledore?

Does Dumbledore say "Severus, please" in the movie - if so, did Gambon use a weak voice?
    • CommentAuthorJack09

Yes yes both scenes are in the film.

Harry is right beneath that round gold/wooden orb and looks at Draco. The Death Eaters appear and after a minute or two Snape appears and 'shushes' Harry. We see Snape walking up the stairwell. Harry has calmed down a bit. He trusts Snape. And then Snape appears and after some seconds Dumbledore does say 'Severus please' and a chilling choir begins and Dumbledore is killed. The entire Astronomy Tower scene is really emotional.

I also loved the running down the Stairwell after the death. There are some enormous round 'holes' let's say on thw tower through which you can see the grounds and the towers. And there is this beautiful grey/blue/black sky and it makes for a really amazing background. But the chase moment is few seconds long. But I just had to mention that.
  2.
How long does the scene at Slughorn's house last? Is there still the "knitting pattern" line from Dumbledore?
Is the scene still in where Harry asks Dumbledore, "You didn't bring Slughorn back to simply teach potions, did you?"

Would you call this the best looking HP film yet?
  3.
Is the line still in where Snape says "it's over"? I assume that's after Dumbledore dies?

When the DEs are walking through the castle, how much do we see them destroy? Is Snape leading them, because in the trailers, he's at the front of the group?

When the DEs arrive at the top of the astronomy tower, what does dumbledore say to bellatrix? does he act calm?
    • CommentAuthorJack09

Yes both scenes are there. The 'knitting pattern' is hilarious. The Slug scene must be around 3-4 minutes...long enough IMO. A good introduction to Slughorn and his relationship with Lily too.

Yes Harry's line is there too. I think it is said in their first or second lesson...

Yes. It is the best looking HP film and the trailers are a bit of a 'lackluster'. I mean that when seeing the Millennium Bridge attack on the big screen with top-notch quality, special effects, sound effects, music and everything...it's much much much better. And there are some very abstract scenes which look like paintings (especially the Astronomy Tower scenes in the end, the Cave..)

I've got to leave now.Ask anything and I'll answer later. :)
  4.
In the movie, how much does the trio discuss Malfoy and what they think he's up to?

Is the Marauder's Map in the film at all?
  5.
How many classes are in the film? How many classes do we see the students attend?

You do remember that, after Dumbledore/Harry in the cave, they still show Mcgonnagal and the students looking up at the darkening sky, right? Didn't they cut that part out?

Is this Malfoy's largest role yet? Do we see him walk to the vanishing cabinet several times throughout the film? Does he still use those birds to test it?
  6.
Oh, and, in the cave, when Dumbledore casts the fire, does he shout the spell "Artis Temperus"?

In the trailers, his voice sounds magnified, too. Is it like that in the movie?
  7.
Oh, and after the Slughorn party where Filch brings Malfoy in and Snape takes him out, does Harry leave and spy on them? Do you remember what Snape tells Malfoy in the film --- does he mention promising to protect Malfoy?

    lol wait till the film!!!
  8.
I can't see the film. I don't have any means of seeing it at the theater, and I live hours away from one, so I have to wait a few months. I'm just asking questions - I don't care if I know how the scenes play out.

So, last questions for you, Jack (in addition to the ones above, if you could answer those too!):

How does Harry head to Hagrid's hut in the film? Does Hagrid invite him? What does Hagrid say about Aragog? Does he mention how Aragog died?

So Eileen prince isn't mentioned?how will i explain to my parents how snape got his nickname?I will have to say that they cut it from the film.so is it really 153minutes long?does cormac vomit on snapes shoes?does hermione kiss cormac in the mouth?is it the film most different from the book?does the sectumsempra scene show alot of blood?when malfoy stamps on Harry does it show alot of blood?would u say this is pg or pg13 material?

One more question; does Dumbledore tell Harry about choices? That he is only the Chosen One because of Voldemort choosing to strike him and if he hadn't, he wouldn't be?
  10.
Yeah, I have to wait till its on DVD.

Does Snape still say "how grand it must be to be the chosen one" as he and mcgonnagal are inspecting the cursed necklace?

    (also the questions above)
  11.
Also, I was just watching an ABC preview, and it shows Draco looking nervous/frightened as the DEs attack the Great Hall. It shows a gust of wind pushing back his hair as he looks at the destruction, scared. Is that bit still in the film?

Does Draco have a lot of screentime in this one?

Also, how brutal is Draco stomping on Harry's face in the train?
  12.
Oh, and are you SURE that we still see Snape looking at the stain glass window, and McGonnagal telling the students to head back to their dorms after the cave scene? Nicholas Hooper said they cut the In Noctem part out, which was in that scene, so how is that still in? Is it just those clips without the music? Do we still see everyone looking at the sky after the cave, including the students and snape? Not the Dumbledore tribute, just after the cave
  13.
And like you said before, we still see Draco get out of bed and slowly walk to the vanishing cabinet before he corners dumbledore, right? After the cave scene, do we see scenes at the school or does it immediately cut to the astronomy tower part?

Do we still see Draco disarm Dumbledore? Does Dumbledore look shocked?

    1. They don't discuss Draco too much. BUT there are some scenes about him...(like the train traveling scene) In general Ron and Hermione think he's completely obsessed and don't really care..In the end though they are feeling that something must be wrong.

    2. Yes Marauder's Map is in the film for 2-3 scenes...Harry examines the map searching for Draco. ;)

3.Only Potions classroom...Nothing else I'm afraid. I WAS disappointed that there was no DADA lesson...ehm...anyway...not a big loss but I'd love to hear 'Don't call me sir professor' :P

    4. Everything's there with McGonagall and Snape and everyone...don't worry. After Harry and Dumbledore's scene at the Cave we see a 1-1.5-minute build-up sequence with all of them in various parts of the castle. The soundtrack at that moment was chilling. There were many awesome and scary sounds of the clouds and the storm coming and at the same time the music was...uhm..if I remember correctly because my memory's fading away...a combination of Dumbledore's foreboding-In Noctem and Malfoy's Mission. Something like that. One of the best scenes in the film IMO. Really awesome and chilling foreshadowing.

5.Malfoy's role is the biggest one FOR SURE. You simply CAN'T compare. As I said, his role is completely chilling and interesting in this film.
He uses the Vanishing Cabinet twice: one with a green apple and one with a small bird. Though before the Astronomy Tower scene we see him again in the Room letting the DEs invade Hogwarts. All these scenes are some of the most foreshadowing and chilling scenes in the film. I truly loved everything about Draco/Snape/DEs in the film.

    6. I don't remember Dumbledore saying something...I think he must have but I can't remember this detail. All I remember was the beautifully haunting scene with Harry being in the BOTTOM of the lake and fire comets fly through the waters and we see a huge cloud of fire over the surface and Inferi dive deep inside and we see huge HUGE piles of millions Inferi. Harry starts swimming to the surface and we see Dumbledore with the firestorm over the island. When Harry comes back to the surface he swims to the island and is protected by Dumbledore. There is a brief moment of absolute grief. Harry looks lost and empty. Dumbledore creates this enormous fire passages in both sides of the cave and they go to the gondola and start heading to the other shore of the lake. Amazing scene.

    7. Yes Harry follows them. They are in a long dark corridor and Draco says he needs no protection but Snape tells him about the Unbreakable Vow. We don't see Harry though at all...only at the end...when Draco leaves the camera goes behind the corridor where we see Harry eavesdropping. Quite a cool shot.

8.Well I was disappointed that there was almost no mention of Aragog before. Actually Hagrid had two 'big' scenes ( the burial and the Hogsmeade scene). Harry drinks Felix Felicis and decides to go to the Greenhouses. He finds Slughorn and tells him to go to Hagrid's. It's all about luck. Felix guides him and they go to the burial. The burial was a really beautiful moment. Though the whole crying of Hagrid was a bit comical and Harry's humor is dry at a point (it's funny) the music was quite beautiful and the aerial shots are amazing. There's a lot of fog and they are atop a small hill at the Grounds with the slopes and the forests around them. Very beautiful and artsy.

9.Eileen is not mentioned. Actually I didn't care about the Half-Blood Prince name. Rickman truly delivers in the end so I really didn't care about it. You just feel that he had this nickname as a boy. A boy who wasn't really good (Sectumsempra :P)

    10. Actually the film is 145-147 minutes long WITHOUT end credits. Around 15-20 minutes longer than OotP.

    11. Cormac does vomit yes.

12.No no kissing. I don't remember anything you know. But I loved Ron's expressions when he learns that Cormac will go with Hermione to the ball. Cormac is not a stupid muscular jerk like in the book. He is arrogant and handsome. So it works better.

    13. It was definitely PG-13. I mean...come on it was far darker than OotP. OotP didn't have anything except Nagini's attack, the masked Death Eaters and the scenes with Voldemort. In this one the Inferi alone deserve a PG-13 rating.

    14. Sectumsempra WAS bloody but not REALLY bloody. There was a small pool of blood, What made the scene horrifying was the cinematography. There were white marbles around, soft blue/grey light, hot water on the floor and a seemingly really injured person with a completely white shirt in a pool of blood. I loved loved the cinematography.

    15.No horntail tatoo.

    16. No kiss in the Common Room. They kiss in the Room of Requirement. Ginny helps Harry hide the book and she tells him to close his eyes because if he sees where she hides it he will come back to take it. As Ginny hides it she tells she has a secret too and she kisses Harry gently. Harry is...stunned. The music was beautiful. The moment was really sweet.

    17. Yes Dumbledore sort of tells Harry that he is the one who can kill Voldemort. Not in that way...but Dumbledore is quite pressing :P Like you know Potter YOU can only kill Voldemort so find the memory or else I'll kick your ass. But in a much MUCH more gentle way. But it underlines that. :P

18.Snape? I don't remember...He has around 5-6 lines in the scene. I think he did say that.

19.Yes yes. Draco is completely shocked. Only Bellatrix destroys the Great Hall. The destruction scene is one of the most epic ones in the series even if it lasts few seconds (actually it couldn't last more...would it take 10 seconds to destroy each window? Not really :P) but they use some really epic wide shots of the Great Hall...different ones which make the scene awesome. And the sound effects were amazing. Draco is outside and there's a gust of wind because of the large central window being also smashed and the Death Eaters grab him and they leave. Draco is SO OBVIOUSLY not a bad guy. ;)

20.Yes Draco plays a lot. I think it goes like this: Harry Potter > Ron > Hermione > Dumbledore > Ginny > Slughorn > Draco > Snape > Bellatrix. These are the main characters and it goes like this yeah.

    21. Not really brutal. But the noise of the nose breaking is quite effective. :P

    22. Dumbledore is disarmed yes. He doesn't look really shocked. Actually he is shocked but then is really calm. He is very lovable towards Draco that's for sure. Gambon is very emotional in the scene. His best scene I think.
  14.
    Absolute last questions:

    http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809791044/video/14479463

Scroll down and look at the "Beyond Anything I Imagined" clip, which just came out...in the movie, is that clip extended? That clip is supposed to have the "in my life, I have seen things that are truly horrific" line, but it's not in that clip. Just watch the "Beyond Anything I Imagined" clip and let us know if it's a shortened version of what we see in the film.

Is the Dumbledore line still in about Harry/Hermione "your activities outside of class"?

When Harry drinks the luck potion and goes to see Slughorn, is the scene still in where he tells Ron/Hermione that he feels "Hogwarts is the place to be tonight, you know what I mean?"

    Ron and Hermione: No.
  15.
Does Bellatrix get a lot of screentime? Is her part much more significant than in the last movie?

I don't remember anything else about that scene I'm sorry...I think it's slightly extended in the film.

Yeah. The Felix scene is extremely funny.

Bellatrix really does get more screentime but don't expect anything crazy..she's there for around 15 minutes of the film but that's definitely longer comparing to her 4-5 minutes in OotP.

Ok, no more questions from now on :)
  16.
Saw the movie- I hate how Australia is behind everyone else! While the movie has its flaws, it has been the most satisfying so far. I was concerned that the insertion of the burrow scene might have questioned the integrity of the novel, I felt it achieved its purpose and provided a balance for the more lighthearted storylines. The opening sequence was breathtakingly shot and the comedy didn't lessen the intensity of the serious subject matter.
  17.
i was extremely angry that they didn't include the fighting scene in hogwarts where some of the DA fights the death eaters. also angry they added the burrow fight scene bc now where are they going to go in the seventh book if the burrow caught on fire?! and also they did not add fleur and bill into the movie. they were going to get married in the 7th book but now it will seem odd that harry just goes to a wedding in a seventh book which no one was expecting.
  18.
sectusempra08, I totally agree with you. That scene would've been great. I can't wait to watch the scene of the war at Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Does anyone remember if in the Half-blood prince (the book), Regulus Black is mentioned at all? 'cause in the movie Regulus Black is mentioned at the beginning when Harry's with Slughorn. So I was wondering if that was a way for David Yates to sort of build up the plot for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, to remind the fans that RAB is Regulus Black.

Saw the film and im impressed. The cinematography is amazing; Steve Kloves wrote a very good screen-version - the plot has a lot of depth; the stellar cast is unforgettable - from the trio over Jessie Cave, Maggie Smith & Robbie Coltrane to Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman and Jim Broadbent. Nicholas Hooper composed a really good score again, although I didnt liked one title that much: "The Weasley Stomp" which is actually "Fireworks" from the "OotP" soundtrack, it just felt wrong in this film - i mean it was great in the last one but here it feels like a constant replay. Anyway what is really special about "The Half-Blood Prince" is that it brings the old Potter-Feeling back, which I missed in the last two movies.
    Overall: BLOODY GOOD!
  19.
Thanks everyone for your reviews. I haven't had time to watch it yet and I've been hearing a few bad reviews due to the additional scenes that the screen writers put in. I'm not sure how I feel about the fight scene I've heard about, but I could understand why they would want to put it in-- kindof. As if magic and fighting evil wizards wasn't enough to capture our interest. Oh well, I hope it doesn't ruin the movie.
